“Why does everyone on the Internet have to be a smartass.”

Enjoy this great Seu Jorge song while you read!

I read this comment  beneath a video for a great version of Bowie’s “Life on Mars” played by Seu Jorge.  My kneejerk reaction was to make a post asking if this was the first time this guy had been online (which I did.)  As I clicked “Submit” I asked myself “Why do people even post comments on a youtube video?”  The irony wasn’t lost on me and I’m sorry to say I was now a contributor to the banality of “commenting.”

Why did I comment?  Why do others comment?  Mine was certainly kneejerk, and if I didn’t already have a YouTube account with cookie enabled I probably wouldn’t have commented…but there is a commenting subculture out there and you’ll quickly be “schooled” if you’re not prepared.  Don’t expect a linear conversation and certainly don’t expect logical or even related responses.  Here I was watching this great rendition of one of my favorite songs and I was unable to NOT continue reading MrHalo19 and VAR1UM argue over why this video was bad for kids because Jorge smoked.  It was aggravating to me in the same way that celebrity news aggravates me…but I still continue to read.

Anyhoo…Seu Jorge (Mr. Jorge) does a great job with these songs and I recommend you buy the album like I did.

“Had Seu Jorge not recorded my songs in Portuguese I would never have heard this new level of beauty which he has imbued them with.”   – David Bowie
