So I’ve been writing and producing the Lunenburg Public Access News since the Covid-19 outbreak.
When social distancing became a thing we couldn’t get to the studio for the normal recording of the news. Since I stream on Twitch.tv I had most of the tools necessary for a broadcast. It should be simple with my editing and compositing background right?
Well, it’s certainly been a learning process. “Process” is actually the key word when it comes to the news. It’s best that it’s produced with a repeatable process seeing as it’s supposed to be a weekly show.
It starts just by gathering some basic information regarding upcoming events in the categories of State, Town, School, Senior, and Story news. Putting into a larger print format and setting up the cameras and lighting in the studio space.
Generally I record each section with 5-6 takes each and import the media into Premiere Pro. I create sub-clips of each of the news stories using specific titles like “Town News Pretty good” or “Senior News crappy” to make the editing easier.
Hopefully it’s not something I particularly enjoy because I hate seeing myself on camera. There are way more appropriate folks around to do the News after the lock down.
I’ll have to re-evaluate my other project, “Apocalyptic Mealtime” since the Apocalypse actually happened. It turns out that most meals during the Apocalypse are Kraft Mac & Cheese, not military rations.
Thanks for reading! I’ll be posting more everyday. Cheers!
