S.H.I.E.L.D. comes to Television…But Why?

3 years ago I would have loved the concept of a S.H.I.E.L.D. television show.

If you told me Joss Whedon was at the helm I would have been frothing at the mouth, and need to be chained up.

But it’s not 3 years ago…it’s 2013 and quite frankly, I’m not excited about this show in the slightest.  Maybe it’s because I’ve never been caught up in “Colson mania.”  I’ve never understood why a character like Colson, who sucks up to superheroes and has a penchant for making up the worst one-liners, would become popular when you’ve got Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, and other superheroes around.  When S.H.I.E.L.D. is portrayed in any of the movies they’re the comic relief, or used as a plot mechanic to give the bad guys an advantage…now they’re going to be…heroic?

So, understanding that you might be able to understand why I’m not eager to watch a resurrected Colson, who died in “The Avengers,” manage a bunch of S.H.I.E.L.D. rookies.  Yeah, I get the concept…but it’s not exciting.

Give me a Ruffalo Hulk series.  Give me a Rhody as WarMachine series.  Give me a Pre-Cap, Steve and Bucky buddy series.  Heck, give me J.A.R.V.I.S. series and I’d be happy.

Of course, I’ll watch.   I might even end up eating crow if the series turns out to be a hit…which wouldn’t disappoint me.

I just always hoped the next Joss Whedon show would be the resurrection of Firefly!

Cheers!
