Do feeds “Jump the Shark?”

I just thinned out my list of blog feeds on google reader.

jumpthesharkOne of the blogs I removed was one of my most active subscriptions.  At first I found it an endearing read, full of hope and freshness and a different point of view…but then it became a sickly sweet annoyance I scrolled quickly through.  The inner thoughts of this person went from youthful and sassy to predictable, bland and boring.  A chore to read.  So, I wondered if I was a chore to read?  Thankfully I don’t believe many, if any people actually read through this drivel and I’m not trying to build any type of audience.

In fact, the resurgence of Facebook has reduced the amount of blogging I actually do, much to my consternation.  I like stewing on a topic for a few days and getting my thoughts out in one big blog post, which is infinitely more difficult with Facebook in my life.  Facebook (and Twitter for that matter) demand to know what I’m doing right now…and I’ve only got 140 characters to work with.  The dispensing of my micro thoughts deplete the energy I would spend contemplating a subject.  I’m being reprogrammed to think in 140 characters or less!  They give me little mental treats in the form of click games to reinforce the need to participate!

Regardless, it’s nice to be able to have access to the ether…I just have to make sure I’m using it wisely.
