(H)omogenizing (P)ractices

Perhaps I’m simply not sophisticated enough to understand the processes by which big business operates. I can dig that.  I’m just a Joe…a consumer.  I’m fed a constant stream of engineered coolness from the interwebs, my handheld device (formerly known as a ‘phone’), Television, 2 minute YouTube clips and tech blogs…I’m inundated with things that are ‘cool.’  I see that others buy into this mantra of cool and I want to be like them…to share the coolness.  That way we’re all cool like we’re told we will be. That’s such bullshit. I don’t want or need ANYONE or ANYTHING to …

Proud Dad + Linky Goodness = Digital Scrapbook

So, here’s where I’m going to post the collection of Alex links I’m starting to build up. Here are the  2009 Boys Team Gymnastics Results. Feb. 17th – Red Devil boy gymnasts second at state finals. Feb. 5th – Another Burlington Union article that mentions Alex after the Braintree/Burlington meet. Jan. 28th – Another Burlington Union article that mentions Alex after …

Nutrition and the Active Mookie

I’m having a problem with nutrition. I thought that because I’m restricting myself to 1800 calories a day (Protein/veggies/small amount of complex carbs),  sped up my metabolism (I eat roughly 200 calories every 2 hours, more at mealtime), training with weights and doing 30 minutes of HEAVY cardio a day I’m doing everything I can to contribute to being in good shape…and I think I’m in decent shape…but I’m not in great shape. I’d really like to take ‘it’ to the next level and thinking I may need a nutritionist to help guide me.

I’m watching the Congressional address.

This is basically President Obama outlining the problems that face us.  I’m writing as I listen. It seems much more of a theatrical event than a legislative event.  Every now and then President Obama makes a statement and the room erupts into applause…what’s interesting to me are the Republicans are selectively sitting, depending on the point being raised.  I don’t know why it surprises me that the whole event is choreographed to the nth degree…American politics has always embraced the theatrical.  It’s nice to hear all these hopeful statements and his oratory skills add to whatever point he’s making. Obama’s …

Jim’s 40th!

My friend Jim turned 40 on Saturday! I brought him an Carvel cake and a “4” and “0” candles and sang “Happy Birthday” to his ultimate embarrassment.  Jim’s birthday’s have always forshadowed the rest of our group of friends…as his is early in the year.  Thankfully I’ve got another 5 months or so before I hit 40 and I’ve got a plan!  I’m going on vacation the week of my birthday…ALONE! =) Happy 40th B-Day bud.

Finally…The Gold Medal Rings Performance!

Make sure to click the HD button!!! Also…make sure to turn the volume down a bit, I’m obnoxiously loud. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WT_S9O0Tgs0] Look for the flip INTO an “Iron Cross” early on…that’s a superior level of difficulty and just one of the subtle marks of excellence displayed here.  Obviously I’m a proud parent, but more than that I’m so happy he’s been able to experience one of those memorable moments, where everyone is cheering for him.  I tried to impress upon him to not only hear, but to listen to the cheers and soak in the moment.  He’s going to be a …
