Believe it or not I’ve got my belt AND my wallet.
I’ve actually got a lot to remember. I’ve got to send out my Dad’s rent, housekeeping checks today. I’ve got to go food shopping today too and that’s got it’s own list. I’ve spent the last day chewing on, and coming to resolution on a few things and I think I can find a happy medium between ‘new’ and ‘old lives…in fact, it’s really just a transition of the same life I guess.
I watched Blade Runner last night and it really stands up over the years. The lighting, the Mini-moog soundtrack, cinematography…it all works. Roy Batty has got to be one of my favorite anti-heroes. He’s got some great lines in this film.
“I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched sea-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate.”
“All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain…Time to die.”
Harrison Ford is quite good as Deckard, but Roy Batty steals the show. What a great study of life and death, kinship and alienation, desire and reason, order and anarchy. All set in a future world that embodies all the visions presented to me when I was growing up. It’s amazing to see the influence that a short story and later, movie, would have on science fiction in general. All the great William Gibson novels owe their feel, environment and ambiance to Philip K. Dick. Amazing stuff. Anyway, it’s snowing out and I’m probably going home soon. I’ll try to post later and wrap up my week.
